It’s mango season in Haïti and the bounty of fruit is just amazing. So many varieties to choose from, it’s mind boggling sometimes. I received a case of Baptiste mangoes for my birthday from a friend who knows how much I enjoy this particular variety. They are very fragrant as they ripen and the flesh remains firm, even at its ripest. There is also a good ratio of flesh to the size of the seed, making it in my opinion the absolute finest mango ever.
I decided to make smoothies this morning to use some of my fruit, as they are all reaching the maximum point of ripeness. This delicious beverage did not disappoint, so I decided to share this quick and easy recipe with you. Nutritious and delicious, it’s an easy fix and gives you maximum pleasure in every sip. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. In fact, I think I’ll make another batch this afternoon!
Mango Smoothie
Makes 2 glasses
2 ripe mangoes, cut into cubes
1/2 cup plain or vanilla yoghurt
1/2 cup water
2 tbsp honey
Pinch of salt * optional
Some fresh nutmeg grated
5-6 ice cubes
In a blender, place the mango pieces with water and blend until smooth.
Add the yoghurt, honey, nutmeg and salt. Blend together well.
Place ice cubes in the mix and blend until consistency is smooth. You can thin the mixture out slightly with a little extra water if too thick. Remember that the ice will melt further making the smoothie a little thinner.
Pour into tall glasses and drink immediately. Enjoy!!
